Before settling on the final tracklist, Mac revealed in interviews that he scrapped nine complete albums' worth of material during a dark, isolated period in Los Angeles before moving to New York to reset.

: To promote the album release, Mac’s team launched a functional "GO:OD AM" alarm clock app for mobile devices that played snippets of the album and custom audio messages from Mac to wake fans up.

Much of the album’s core production was cooked up during long studio sessions at Hyde Street Studios in San Francisco alongside producer ID Labs.
