Release: May 11, 2014
Label: Rostrum Records
Almost entirely self-produced by Mac under his producer alias, Larry Fisherman, with additional beats from Thundercat, 9th Wonder, and Earl Sweatshirt as randomblackdude.
Because it was released on Mother's Day, Mac created an interactive website where fans had to virtually "make Mac a sandwich" choosing ingredients like bread, meat, and condiments before the site would give them the download link for the tape.
The entire project was created inside his Studio City home studio—a pitch-black, secluded basement room dubbed "The Sanctuary". Mac locked himself inside for months, making music endlessly while battling severe depression and drug dependency.
Due to the massive number of uncleared samples (including movie audio clips and jazz riffs), Faces couldn't legally be put on Spotify or Apple Music for over seven years. His estate cleared roughly 85% of the samples to finally release it commercially in October 2021, along with the bonus track "Yeah".
